(1967-    ) US author who has concentrated for most of his career on horror and fantasy, beginning with Paranoia (2001), a supernatural thriller involving paranormal powers, the Illuminati, and the predicted assassination of an American president. Interspersed with material of this not unusual sort and of not remarkable calibre are tales of sf interest, the first of these being The Thin White Line: A History of the 2012 Avian Flu Pandemic in Canada (2008), a Near Future Pandemic Disaster tale couched in an objective, distanced Future History style. Tooth and Nail (2010) deals with similar material in Horror in SF terms, as the plague this time round creates troublesome Zombies; Suffer the Children (2014) features a different plague and different zombies, as well as resuscitated children; The Alchemists (2015) is an historical fantasy. One of Ours (2018), which is set in the sf frame of an Alternate History, describes a sexually transmitted disease in 1984 (AIDS is necessarily a subtext to this dating and description), along with the Mutant offspring generated, and the manipulative use of these children by the American government.

DiLouie's series tend to extend narratives whose underlying burden resembles the more compact renderings of his singletons. The Infection sequence beginning with The Infection (2011) places its affliction plague in the very Near Future; the Retreat sequence beginning with The Retreat 1: Pandemic (2013 ebook) with Stephen Knight and Joe McKinney sets its Military SF response to another plague in a slightly more distant Near Future.
