(1920-1994) US artist – also as Morris Dollens, Maurice S Dollens and M S Dollens – who produced early work for Fanzines and began professional SF Magazine appearances in the late 1950s with one-off covers for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction (November 1957), Venture Science Fiction (May 1958) and Fantastic (November 1959). He painted in acrylics and focused on astronomical, Space Flight and planetary-landscape themes, Saturn and its moons (see Outer Planets) being a favourite subject. Later magazine covers included three for Gamma in the early 1960s, four for Spaceway 1969-1970, the first two issues of Thrust (1973) and a single cover for Omni (March 1982). These appearances are merely the tip of the iceberg of Dollens's substantial output of 1700 or more paintings, which he exhibited and sold at sf Conventions until the late 1980s. [DRL]
