Gerritsen, Tess
Entry updated 19 December 2022. Tagged: Author.

Pseudonym of US physician and author Terry Gerritsen (1953- ), active from around 1985, most of whose works have been medical thrillers, mostly nonfantastic, many of them included in the Rizzoli & Isles sequence featuring a detective and a forensic pathologist, which begins with The Surgeon (2001); of this series, The Mephisto Club (2006) [listed below] is an exercise in the supernatural.
Among her singletons of genre interest, Bloodstream (1988) centres on a parasite (see Parasitism and Symbiosis) seemingly native to a lake which causes the humans it invades to act violently. The Shape of Night (2019) is a ghost story. The Near Future Gravity (1999), about a mysterious illness (originating in micro-organisms found in a meteor) that has invaded a Space Station, fuses sf and forensic Medicine with considerable competence.
