Gilden, Mel
Entry updated 12 September 2022. Tagged: Author.
(1947- ) US author who began publishing work of genre interest with "What About us Grils?" in Clarion (anth 1971) edited by Robin Scott Wilson, and whose first novels were Young Adult tales like The Return of Captain Conquer (1986) and the loosely linked Outer Space and All That Junk (1989), both comical though not spoofish, and quite compellingly told. Most of his later career has focused on series for slightly younger readers, like the Fifth Grade Monsters sequence beginning with M is for Monster (1987 chap) and its numerous sequels. His Star Trek Ties are competent; and the Cybersurfers sequence, beginning with Cybersurfers: Cyberspace Cowboys (1995) with Ted Pedersen, carries comedy to the Internet. [JC]
