(1944- ) US author who was the uncredited co-editor of Modern Monsters in 1966. His first publications of interest were such nonfiction studies as The Frankenstein Legend (1973) – the first of several fictional and nonfictional books on the Frankenstein Monster (see also Mary Shelley) – and The Dracula Book (1975), and who also wrote filmscripts. His first novel, Bugged (1974), is fantasy; his second, Spawn (1976), is an sf tale featuring intelligent Dinosaurs. He then returned to his long-running interest in Frankenstein with the New Adventures of Frankenstein sequence – Frankenstein Lives Again (1977; exp 1981), Terror of Frankenstein (1977), Bones of Frankenstein (1977) and Frankenstein Meets Dracula (1978) – as well as further nonfiction titles including The Frankenstein Catalog (1984), a useful bibliographical companion to the subject [for full contents description, see Checklist] and The Frankenstein Archive: Essays on the Monsters, the Myth, the Movies, and More (2002).
Glut also wrote a successful Tie, The Empire Strikes Back (1980: vt Classic Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 1994; further vt Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 1995), novelizing Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back; this text was also assembled in The Star Wars Trilogy (omni 1987) along with the two other novelizations, by Alan Dean Foster (writing as George Lucas) and James Kahn. Dinosaur Valley Girls: The Book (1998) both novelizes his own film, Dinosaur Valley Girls (1996), and provides nonfiction backup material on its production. His long involvement with dinosaurs is reflected in various erudite studies and at least one work of encyclopedic ambition; these books, being in no sense fantastic, are not listed below. [JC]
