(1952- ) US author of Young Adult novels, including Mr Was (1996), a dark Time Travel tale in which a young man, after witnessing his mother's murder, travels fifty-five years into the past, where he will live his life out in order to prevent the crime; Hole in the Sky (2001), a Near Future post-Disaster tale whose young protagonists return to the land in an effort to escape a deadly epidemic; and Rash (2006), also set in the Near Future, a Dystopian America where children are sold to multinational corporations like McDonalds. The young protagonist escapes this tyranny with the aid of a rogue AI. The Klaatu Diskos sequence beginning with The Obsidian Blade (2012) confronts its young protagonist with the disintegration of his family – and inevitably a weakening in the fabric of reality – through Time Travel incursions from the future, and other journeys.
