Hearne, Kevin
Entry updated 10 June 2024. Tagged: Author.

(1970- ) US author almost all of whose work has been fantasy and supernatural fiction, like the extensive Iron Druid Chronicles beginning with Hounded (2011), which features the sometimes picaresque adventures of a Shapeshifting next-to-Immortal druid in Arizona; Vampires and Nordic deities complicate his life. The Oberon's Meaty Mysteries sequence beginning with The Purloined Poodle (2016) is spoofish fantasy. The Seven Kennings sequence beginning with A Plague of Giants (2017) is set in an event-plagued Fantasyland [for Celtic Fantasy and Fantasyland see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below]. The Ink and Sigil sequence beginning with Ink & Sigil (2020) features a comic detective in a fantasticated contemporary world.
Hearne is of sf interest for a Star Wars Tie, Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi (2015), and for A Question of Navigation (2021), whose protagonists – having been abducted by Aliens but separated from 50,000 other humans on the Starship that imprisons them – must work out a way of dissuading their captors from treating Homo sapiens as food. The marrow of the tale is dark, though Hearne's touch is, as in all his work, light. [JC]
