(1958- ) US artist who has worked in Comics as penciller for both DC Comics and Marvel Comics titles, the former including Batman and Hellblazer and the latter Swamp Thing. As a creator of book cover art he is strongly associated with Jean-Marc Lofficier's and Randy Lofficier's Black Coat Press, producing many cover paintings since 2007 for French Fantastika published in translation by that Small Press, the translator very often being Brian Stableford. Hoffman's covers for this sequence typically and often effectively combine a certain moody Frenchness with tropes of Pulp-era artwork. [DRL]
