(1971- ) Canadian author who began publishing work of genre interest with "Tidal Maneuvers" in On Spec for Fall 2006. Most of his later work fits into two connected Hard SF series. The Quantum Universe sequence beginning with The Quantum Magician (January-May 2018 Analog; 2018) follows the life and exploits of a Genetically Engineered Superman whose hubristic longing to advantageously understand the entire world leads him into playing confidence-man to the universe. The Quantum Universe: Venus Ascendant sequence beginning with The House of Styx (March-July 2020 Analog; 2020 ebook), which is set in a moderately Near Future Terraformed Venus, follows the adventures and emotional entanglements of a Québécois family, of colonizing stock, who discover a Wormhole to another planet, which they hope to use to relieve themselves and their fellow colonists from the clutches of an avaricious bank. Künsten's own elated dependency on the SF Megatext is not conveyed without nostalgia. [JC]
