House Name owned by James Frey (1969-    ) – not to be confused with James N Frey – a serially controversial author and screenwriter whose works include the heavily fabricated addiction memoir A Million Little Pieces (2003) and the contemporary Messiah fantasy The Final Testament of the Holy Bible (2011). The Lore house name is associated with his Young Adult "fiction factory" Full Fathom Five, whose contractual terms have attracted further notoriety. Pittacus Lore is an unseen character in, and ostensible author of, the Lorien Legacies Series about a group of nine teenage Alien refugees on Earth hunted by agents of the Mogadorian hegemony which has already destroyed their homeworld; fortunately, friendly mentors guide the nine towards proper use of their Superpowers.

The first two novels, I Am Number Four (2010) – filmed as I Am Number Four (2011) – and The Power of Six (2011) were primarily written by Jobie Hughes (1980-    ) from an outline by Frey, but Hughes was reported in 2010 to have clashed with Frey over the draft of the latter. The authorship of projected future volumes remained in doubt for some time, though later instalments – The Rise of Nine (2012), The Fall of Five (2013) and The Revenge of Seven (2014) – have been ascribed to Hughes, and continue the cleverly orchestrated action. Hughes is also ascribed as the author of the connected I Am Number Four: The Lost Files sequence beginning with Six's Legacy (2011 ebook). [NL/JC]
