(1939-1977) US author who also wrote as Ted Johnstone. He published a Space Opera, The Arsenal Out of Time (1967), and a number of Ties, most of them based on the Television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964-1968). These begin with The Man from U.N.C.L.E. #4: The Dagger Affair (1966), include The Man from U.N.C.L.E. #6: The Vampire Affair (1966), which takes the Men into a set of tunnels through the Hollow Earth, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. #8: The Monster Wheel Affair (1967), whose sf device is an apparent Space Station, and end with The Man from U.N.C.L.E. #17: The Hollow Crown Affair (1969). (UK numbering differs from US.) He also wrote a tie to the television series The Prisoner (1967-1968): The Prisoner #2: Number Two (1969; vt Who Is Number Two? 1982). [JC/DRL]
