Mediascene

Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.

Tabloid-size Media Magazine. Publisher: James Steranko as Supergraphics Publications. Editor: Steranko. 41 issues, 1972 to 1979.

While not an sf or fantasy Media Magazine per se, this title from Comics artist and author Steranko included a good deal of material on these genres. Starting life as Comixscene, it became Mediascene with issue #7, retaining the name "Comixscene" as the title of a detailed comics section. Subjects covered besides new film and paperback releases were Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E Howard, Pulp heroes such as Doc Savage and a great many comics artists. Each issue contained a centrefold art poster, often by Steranko himself, though many others also contributed poster art. The magazine switched to a Slick format with #42 in 1979, now covering general Cinema with far less material on sf or comics. This less sf-relevant incarnation of Mediascene ceased publication in the early 1990s. [GSt/DRL]
