(1975- ) US author whose early work was published as by David Wong; from 2021 he has used his own name for new work and reprints of earlier tales. The Almost Armageddon sequence beginning with John Dies at the End (2007) as by Wong follows the elaborately antic careers of a team devoted to fending of an Invasion of Aliens who may bring about the End of the World; the tone throughout is forcedly gonzo. The Zoey Ashe sequence beginning with Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits (2015) as by Wong, though not much distinguished in tone from the previous series, clearly benefits from its single central figure, Zoey Ashe herself, Near Future heir to her father's crime-and-surveillance empire housed in the mysterious City known as Tabula Ra$a, Utah. In the first sequel, Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick (2020) as by Wong, Zoey continues to have to deal with her corrupt fortune; in Zoey is too Drunk for this Dystopia (2023), Tabula Ra$a proves to be increasingly labyrinthine.
