Quasimodo's Monster Magazine
Entry updated 4 April 2017. Tagged: Publication.
Letter-size perfect-bound Cinema magazine printed on cheap newsprint. Published by Mayfair Publications Incorporated. Editor: Tony Tallarico. Seven issues, January 1975 to May 1976.
An unabashed attempt to imitate Famous Monsters of Filmland, this publication started life as Monster World, then changed its title with #3 – possibly as a result of complaints from Warren Publishing regarding their own Monster World magazine of the 1960s. Quasimodo's Monster Magazine presented some reasonably well-written items, with a slight emphasis on then recent productions. Coverage included the films Phase IV (1973) and The Land that Time Forgot (1975), the Television series Space: 1999 (1975-1977), and articles on Roger Corman, Boris Karloff and Leonard Nimoy. Some Comics material also appeared, relating to films and the original Star Trek (1966-1969). The final few issues were much more juvenile in tone than early ones. The uncredited cover artwork was quite strong. A companion title was Monster Fantasy. [GSt]
