Working name of the German author and Radio playwright born Otto Jens Luther (1918-1983); in the German navy from 1937 and briefly a U-boat commander in 1943 during World War Two before being taken prisoner. He is of greatest sf interest for the untranslated novella Die Kinder des Saturn ["The Children of Saturn"] (1959), an expressionist tale dealing with nuclear War and death by radiation in the Post-Holocaust aftermath. Three of the ten stories in his collection Nach Jan Mayen und andere Geschichten ["After Jan Mayen and Other Stories"] (coll 1981) can also be described as Speculative Fiction. [DRL]
