Sci Fi Files, The

US tv mini-series (1997). The Sci Fi Channel. Produced by Peter Swain. Directed by Swain, and Chris Lethbridge. Narrator: Mark Hamill. Four 60-minute episodes. Colour.

This documentary mini-series examined the development of sf – chiefly in Cinema form – since the very early twentieth century, focusing initially on such films as Frankenstein (1931) and Metropolis (1926) and continuing through the serials of the 1930s to the 1950s. The sf cycle of films in the 1950s was covered in some detail, with brief attention also paid to sf Television on into the mid-1990s. Themes covered included artificial life, Aliens, Spaceships, Time Travel and other staples of the genre.

The title played on the series title The X-Files (1993-2000), then at the height of its popularity. [GSt]
