Film (2010). Rogue presents a Hydraulx Entertainment/Transmission Entertainment/Relativity Media production in association with Rat Entertainment. Directed by Greg and Colin Strause. Written by Joshua Cordes and Liam O'Donnel. Cast includes Eric Balfour, Brittany Daniel, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson and David Zayas. 94 minutes. Colour.

Urban counterpart to Monsters (2010), made on a comparative shoestring in and around Greg Strause's apartment building, in which Los Angeles (see California) is attacked overnight by a bolide storm of tentacled Aliens bent on hypnotizing us into compliance and eating our brains. A showcase for the Strauses' digital creature effects as much as their filmmaking, it leans on Cloverfield (2008) for its essential storyline, though here served with a tongue-in-cheek sensibility and a bizarrely unfollowable ending (talk of a sequel notwithstanding). The Strauses worked concurrently on effects for the similarly-themed but tonally very different Battle: Los Angeles (2011); legal action by Sony was eventually withdrawn. [NL]
