Thompson, Howard

Entry updated 5 May 2026. Tagged: Author, Film.

(?   -    ) Presumably UK screenwriter and author who co-scripted three films for the Children's Film Foundation, including the popular sf production The Glitterball (1977), a comedy in which an Alien in the form of a small silver sphere is discovered and befriended by children who protect it from the threatening adult world, including the local army base. Thompson also novelized this film as the children's sf tale The Glitterball (1979).

He should not be confused with the US game designer Howard Thompson of Metagaming Concepts (see Laser Squad; Stellar Conquest) who published and edited The Space Gamer (1975-1980). [DRL]
