News item dated 18 October 2023
The SF Encyclopedia carries quietly on, with a site update adding new entries and updating existing ones every Monday, plus other irregular updates whenever required. Of great interest to the editorial team, though not perhaps anyone else, is a statistic buried deep in the 16 October uploads: John Clute's personal count of SFE contributions has edged past three million words, with the SFE total now 6.8 million.
With more and more people abandoning the now chaotic and disinformation-ridden Twitter platform, the SF Encyclopedia has set up accounts on Mastodon and BlueSky. Many thanks to Steven Pearce, a regular contributor of film and television entries who is also our Twittermeister, for looking after the latter.
Much of our spam comes from entrepreneurs offering to "monetize" the SFE site with lots of lucrative and annoying ads. We prefer to keep it ad-free, and free too of intrusive pop-ups begging for money, but since October 2021 we have been wholly dependent on donations to cover expenses. By way of compromise a discreet yellow "Donate" button now appears in the top-right box on every page. We are grateful to everyone who uses it.
Finally, John Clute suggested a slideshow of the "extra" Picture Gallery images, mostly wraparound covers, that appear below the usual front cover scans; there are currently about 1250 of these. Click here for the wraps slideshow.
