(? - ) UK teacher, performing musician and stand-up comic, and author who also writes as by Nick Newman, much of whose work, beginning with Witch Born (2017), which is about a young woman accused of witchcraft in sixteenth century England, has tended to be Young Adult fantasy. He is of initial sf interest for Alpha Omega (2020), set in a Near Future UK where the students of NutriStart Skills Academy are succumbing to a mystery virus, possibly Pandemic; the solution to this melodramatic focus on a single school lies within the vast Virtual Reality domain of the eponymous Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. The protagonist of The Follower (2021), also Young Adult, traces her disappeared twin brother to an extremist cult in California; a Zone of seemingly supernatural weirdness encompasses the nearby small town.
The Garden (2025) as by Nick Newman focuses on adult protagonists, two sisters sequestered in a huge isolated house in a world depopulated by violent Climate Change; a young Mysterious Stranger is discovered living in the house, and opens doors back into the devastation of a wider world which they may not survive.
