(1979- ) UK academic, poet and author, active from around 2000. Her poetry, some of it sf, has appeared variously, individual volumes including Humbug (coll 2004 chap), Unexpected Weather (coll 2009 chap) and The Glass Delusion (coll 2012 chap). She is of direct sf interest for her first novel, Water and Glass (2017), set in a vast ship near what may be the End of the World; the zoologist aboard is tasked with preserving, ark-like, the last animals after the initiating Disaster, a planet-wide flood. Her second novel, The Headland (2025), is set partly along the English south coast at the time of Chernobyl, when the protagonist of the tale discovers an Alien creature washed up along the beach; decades later, during a Near Future period of crisis, the protagonist's son must begin to unravel the implicitly transformative implications of his mother's discovery and subsequent actions.
