(1948-2025) US fan, author and poet who began to publish genre-related Poetry with "For the Women of Science Fiction" in Janus for Spring 1978 (see Janus/Aurora) as Terry Garey. She also published short fiction in Weird Tales and, several times, Tales of the Unanticipated. Her poem "Spotting UFOs While Canning Tomatoes" (in Serve It Forth: Cooking with Anne McCaffrey, anth 1996, ed Anne McCaffrey and John Gregory Betancourt) received a long-form Rhysling Award. She edited two Original Anthologies of speculative verse: Time Gum and Other Poems from the Minicon Poetry Readings (anth 1988 chap) with Eleanor Arnason – Minicon being the regular Convention of her long-time home town Minneapolis, Minnesota – and Time Frames: A Speculative Poetry Anthology (anth 1991 chap). A late selection of her own verse is The Cat Star and Other Poems (coll 2022 chap), whose title piece "The Cat Star" (in Lady Poetesses from Hell, anth 2012, ed Bag Person Press Collective) had won a short-form Rhysling Award. Owing to failing health, Garey created little or no new work after 2019. [DRL]
