(1982- ) Canadian author, active from before 2005, who is of sf interest for three novels set in the slow catastrophe of a Near Future world increasingly devastated by Climate Change. After a continent-wide power outage, the protagonist of Le Fil des kilomètres (2013; trans Jacob Homel as Running on Fumes 2016) sets off on a Fantastic Voyage across the newly Ruined Earth to visit his distant father, accompanied by a Mysterious Stranger. Similar themes and characters infuse Le poids de la neige (2016; trans Jacob Homel as The Weight of Snow 2019), though some sense of post- Disaster "adventurousness" is necessarily lost in the snow-choked cold of the year. In what may be called a psychological sequel, :the protagonist of Les ombres filantes (2021; trans Jacob Homel as Falling Shadows 2022), this time in what seems a lasting solitude, attempts to escape the continuing breakdown of the civilized world by plunging into the Canadian wilderness; but a teenage Mysterious Stranger meets him and initiates him into some new life, perhaps. As regards to survival of Homo sapiens, no verdict is announced. [JC]
