(1987- ) Scottish author mostly of Young Adult tales, some of them fantasies, mostly dealing adroitly with Gender issues; she began to publish work of genre interest with "Maglev" in After the Fall (anth 2014). Her adult work is published as by Lucy Lapinska. At the moment she is best known for the Strangeworlds Travel Agency sequence beginning with The Strangeworlds Travel Agency (2020), whose young protagonist discovers that the eponymous tourist bureau contains portals to an exciting Multiverse whose central City is about to unravel. She must save it. Chaos must be defeated. The series proceeds. The Artezans sequence beginning with The Forgotten Magic (2024) is set in a world where Magic is thinning [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below].
Lipinski is of adult interest for Some Body Like Me (2025) as by Lucy Lapinska, set in a Near Future world which, devastated by Pollution and other Disasters, hovers at the verge of becoming a Ruined Earth. The protagonist, an Android about to be manumitted from effective Slavery, must gain a new sense of Identity and plumb the emotional dilemma of her continued attachment to her "husband". She must (it is presumed) work to understand if her love might be pre-programmed, like Klara's in Kazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun (2021). Meanwhile the End of the World approaches. [JC]
