(1929-1973) US lawyer and author who published only a few sf stories after the debut of his sole novel, No Man on Earth (1964), a rather compellingly told story in which a man born of a human mother and an Alien father (see Biology; Exogamy) must seek out his destiny. His first short story was "The Dreamer" (April 1965 Fantastic); two others appeared in Fantastic and Amazing respectively in the following month; no further SF Magazine appearances followed. One more sf story is known: "The Search for Man", his contribution to In the Wake of Man: A Science Fiction Triad (anth 1975) edited by Roger Elwood, is less ambitious than, but stands comparison with, the stories by R A Lafferty and Gene Wolfe that complete the volume. A fuller career might have been in the offing, but Moudy died at the age of 43 in a car crash. [JC/DRL]
