(? - ) US author for the Young Adult market whose Truesight sequence beginning with Truesight (2004) is set – unusually for a Dystopia in this category – on a colony planet, whose blind (or forcibly blinded) inhabitants, locked in a Keep known as Harmony Station, may be the subjects of a ruthless experiment in cultural engineering. The young protagonist, who gains forbidden sight, is arrested, threatened with surgical blindness and Memory Edit, but escapes to seek the girl to whom he is attracted. He here discovers a high Technology world, and an ultimate exit into what seems to be a potentially rewarding Space Opera galaxy. Stahler's singletons are not sf, though Doppelganger (2006) (see Doppelgangers; Horror in SF; Shapeshifters) edges into the arguable. [JC]
