His first sf novel, Gloryhits (1978) with Mark Noble, deals with a Disaster following upon research in recombinant DNA, a government-funded Genetic Engineering experiment designed to create a Superman but which, administered in the form of the eponymous LSD-like Drug, causes deformities in children subsequently conceived, and threatens a universally fatal Pandemic if released.
