(1943-    ) US college professor, anthologist and author, most of whose work up to 2002 – 193 titles all told – was in collaboration with Martin H Greenberg, either alone or with further collaborators. These included such "name" authors as Robert Adams, Poul Anderson, Piers Anthony, Isaac Asimov, David A Drake, Joe Haldeman, Barry N Malzberg, Richard Matheson, Robert Silverberg, S M Stirling and Jane Yolen. In this period, 1979-2002, Waugh co-edited 80 anthologies with Asimov, along with well over 100 additional anthologies and single-author selections.

After a decade-long break, he resumed publishing with a further sequence of collaborative anthologies appearing from 2012 onwards; in September 2022 he reported a publication tally of 256 books, with completed manuscripts for 40 more. He has a particular passion for resurrecting forgotten or neglected public-domain stories in the context of thematic anthologies, such as Killing London (anth 2021) with Don Wismer, collecting tales that inflict doom and Disaster on London, and the self-explanatory The Rivals of H.G. Wells, Vol. 1 (Short Stories and Novelettes) (anth 2021) with Don Wismer. His taste in fiction is broad-church, and widely researched. [JC/DRL]
