Williams, Missouri

Entry updated 2 June 2026. Tagged: Author.

(1992-    ) UK editor, playwright and author, now in Prague, whose first novel The Doloriad (2022) focuses primarily on a family composed both of survivors of and those born with Mutations after a Near-Future series of planetary Disasters. Incest seems necessary, as they may be the only humans left. But the matriarchal head of the clan sends the protagonist, who was born without legs, on a dream-inspired journey in search of others to mate with (see Exogamy; Gothic SF). Her journey, as indicated by the title of this novel, will be epic; her days are full of discourse with artefacts of figures like Thomas Aquinas (see Religion); her return may constitute an Instauration [see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below]. Her second novel, The Vivisectors (2026), occupies the water margins of the very Near Future through its depiction of an unnamed university town in the UK which has been choked by a sudden influx of invasive flora (see Climate Change).
