(? - ) US editor and author, active from around 2005, who is of sf interest for her first novel, The Companions (2020), set in a moderately distant Near Future California some time after a devastating plague Pandemic has savagely reduced the population of the state, a Disaster severe enough to warrant a permanent quarantine. In this world a high-tech medical corporation has evolved a Technology which exploits Uploads of the consciousness of the dead or dying into Android-like Machines; within these traps, the uploads lack any rights over against the live humans who buy them as Companions. The protagonist finds she has somehow been wrongly (which is to say beneficially) programmed, and can escape the trammels binding her to her servile role as a product – one designed to addict its users – of Big Pharma.
Katie M Flynn should not be confused with Katie Flynn, a pseudonym of Judy Turner (1939-2019). [JC]
