Fortier, Ron
Entry updated 22 December 2025. Tagged: Author, Comics, Editor.
(1946- ) US author, editor and Comics writer who began to publish fiction of genre interest with "The Hero-Maker" in Space and Time for May 1974. His first novel was Trail of the Seahawks (1987) with Ardath Mayhar, which with its prequel Monkey Station (1989), also written with Mayhar, makes up the Macaque Cycle of Post-Holocaust adventures in which humans and genetically altered sentient macaque monkeys (see Apes as Human) must coexist and cooperate. Another collaboration with Mayhar is the supernatural fantasy Witchfire (2007), which centres on the occult talent (or perhaps Psi Power) of raising and controlling fire.
Fortier revived the Doc Savage-like character Captain Hazzard created by Paul Chadwick in "Python Men of Lost City" as by Chester Hawks in Captain Hazzard for May 1938, the magazine's only issue. The "new adventures" began with Fortier's complete rewrite of the original story as Python Men of the Lost City (2006) with co-credit to Hawks, and continued with further tales made up from whole cloth, one nevertheless co-credited to Hawks [see Checklist below].
Fortier's Comics work has included scripting The Green Hornet for NOW Comics (which see). [DRL]
