Harmer, Liz

(? - ) Canadian editor and author, now in US, active from around 2010. In her first novel, The Amateurs (2018), an abandoned Near Future Hamilton, Ontario houses a ragged group of survivors of some Disaster (see Survivalist Fiction), though in this case the catastrophe is entirely human in origin. A vast intrusive American corporation known as PINA has developed an ostensible Virtual Reality device, which gives users in the troubled contemporary world a semblance of Time Travel or exploration of other Dimensions; but PINA's "ports" literally absorb their users. Civilization is due to end. The intense Doppelganger-intense relationship between two twins, in Harmer's second novel Strange Loops (2022), dips into the water margins of Fantastika, though the action is ultimately this-worldly.
