Working name of US critic, academic, poet, editor and author Betty Susan Weinbaum (1952-    ), most of her work being focused on women's studies (see Feminism) within and without the regions of Speculative Fiction, or more broadly Fantastika. She founded and edits the feminist journal Femspec, which publishes fiction and nonfiction, also editing a selection from its first years, Feminist Voices: The Best of Femspec's Creative Work: The First Ten Years (anth 2013). Her own fiction, much of which has been assembled as The Island of Floating Women (coll 1994), runs a gamut from a stretched naturalism through Magic Realism into Absurdist SF. The Nightmares of Sasha Weitzwoman (2010) Equipoisally juxtaposes critical analysis and surreal fantasy in its examination of the Israeli-Palestinian nightmare over the past decades. [JC]
